Why Are We Known As GRIT? A Short Name with a Powerful Meaning

We’re often asked, “Why are you known as GRIT?” and the answer is simple – yet powerful.
At our core, we are Growing Resilience in Teens.
That’s what we do, and it’s what drives every programme, every coaching session, every conversation we have with the young people we support.
But over time, as our work has deepened and our community has grown, we have found ourselves naturally referring to what we do in a shorter, more powerful way: GRIT.
GRIT is not only an acronym of Growing Resilience in Teens, it also reflects what Growing Resilience in Teens really means.
Because resilience doesn’t happen overnight. It’s grown. It starts with a dream, a goal, and the belief that change is possible. Just like someone training for a marathon, it takes self-efficacy, getting up early, pushing through challenges, and choosing to keep going, even when it’s hard. That’s what we help young people build: the internal tools to face life’s curveballs and keep moving forward.
And that journey is at the heart of our name.
GRIT captures that process.
It’s not separate from Growing Resilience in Teens, it’s a distilled version of it.
A word that reflects the strength, courage, and determination that grows in every young person we work with.
You’ll also notice the semicolon in our branding. That’s no accident either. It’s a powerful symbol of choice, the moment where someone could stop, but instead decides to keep going. Just like in life, we all face points where we have to choose whether to continue. The semicolon reminds us; it tells us this isn’t the end of the story.
So, while we’ve shortened our name, we haven’t changed our purpose.
We are still Growing Resilience in Teens.
We’re just known as GRIT, because that’s what it takes, and that’s what we build.
