Accepting help
We understand that taking the first step to better your mental health and wellbeing can feel very scary. You’re not sure how it will help, worried it might get worse or that people will judge you.
Since 2018 we have supported around 1,500 young people with those same fears who have gone on to do great things, including our Youth Trustee, Berri.
Thanks to GRIT’s support, Berri gained the confidence to push through her exams and is now training to become a paramedic.

GRIT has been great for me, I went from not wanting to come to the sessions to wanting to come every week and enjoying it so much. GRIT has helped me to become more confident in myself and help me to start believing in myself again, I will be eternally grateful.
A Young Person
How can GRIT help me?
We coach young people aged 11–24 through group boxing programmes, workshops, and 1:1 sessions, delivered in schools, online, or from our gym space at Ultimate 8 in Hitchin.
Every session is tailored to you and your needs
Where is GRIT located?
You can find us in secondary schools across Hitchin and Letchworth, including:
Bancroft • Briars Patch • Fearnhill • Highfield • Hitchin Boys’ • Hitchin Girls’ • Knights Templar • The Priory • North Herts Education Centre
We also work with GP surgeries in Ashwell, Baldock, Hitchin, Letchworth, and Whitwell.
If you’re not connected to any of these schools or surgeries, you can still make a self-referral online.
Is GRIT a free service?
If you’re registered with a GP in Ashwell, Baldock, Hitchin, Letchworth, or Whitwell, you can access our services for free.
If you’re not sure where you’re registered or live outside these areas, don’t worry, still fill out a referral form, and we’ll let you know what support options, including our paid-for service, might be available to you.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Once you have submitted a referral, a member of the team will review your case and be in touch within 5-10 working days.
Please note: During busy periods, such as the start of term or school holidays, our response time may be slightly longer, but we appreciate your patience and will get back to you as soon as we can.
NEED SUPPORT NOW?
GRIT is an early intervention service meaning we support those with early stages of emotional dysregulation.
We are not a crisis support service so cannot support those experiencing immediate or life threatening care.
If you need urgent help, please call 999 or contact the Single Point of Access (SPA) team on 0800 644 4101, available 24/7 for mental health support.
