GRIT is a charity supporting young people just like you facing difficulties with their mental health.

Our Founder’s Story

GRIT was founded in 2018 by Dr Louise Randall, who, as a teenager, faced her own challenges with mental health.

As a doctor who has worked in the NHS since 2004, Louise was determined to honour the mission of her fifteen-year-old self, to change the way the system works for young people struggling with their mental health.

After coming across harmful online content encouraging self-harm, she was driven by her personal story and professional experience to create Growing Resilience in Teens (GRIT): a safe space where young people can feel understood, build confidence, strengthen resilience, and realise their full potential.

What makes GRIT different is the way we combine health and wellbeing coaching with non-contact boxing. Our coaching gives you practical tools to make healthier choices, challenge negative thinking, and build positive habits. At the same time, our coaching sessions offer a safe, physical and mental outlet to release frustration and manage the intense emotions that often come with mental health struggles.

We call this approach our Four Corners Method.

Issues we can help you with

Many of our young people have shared difficulties with things such as anxiety, bullying, difficulties at home, disordered eating, drug/alcohol misuse, grief, school avoidance and self harm. If you have or are struggling with any of these issues or other issues impacting your mental health, know that you are not alone and there is support available for you.

We know that long waits for support can make your mental health feel even worse, that’s why we’re here to help you face those challenges early, before things start to feel too overwhelming.
