Conor is our new Health and Wellbeing Coach

This week it’s Conor’s turn to be in the spotlight!

Conor Macken

Hi, my name’s Conor and I’m delighted to be a part of this exciting project, working with the young people of Hitchin. My focus in life is fitness. I live and breathe it.

Ever since I was 9/10 years old, I’ve always loved football, playing at county level in school and at semi-pro when I turned 18. I also used to play badminton for the county and had one game for England. However, my main passion is boxing. This is the sport I love the most. I have boxed on the unlicensed scene all over the country having 16 fights in total now. The most important fight was the one I lost. This taught me you cannot take this sport halfhearted and must give everything you can to reap the rewards. I have now installed this work ethic and drive into my day-to-day life.

When I left school, like a lot of young people, I was completely lost. My priorities weren’t in the right place and growing up in a town like Luton, it was very easy to get sidetracked in life. Which I admit, I did! However, I still managed to complete two apprenticeships and become a qualified personal trainer in-between. The first being to work in a gym as a gym instructor/activity assistant for Active Luton, which I absolutely loved but I just needed a career change at the time. I then decided to get a trade and became a qualified electrician, which again was great, but I wasn’t following my passion, which is helping people and fitness. I was given an opportunity to go back to my roots and become a part time Personal Trainer on top of working a 60-hour week as an electrician. I grabbed it with both hands and have not looked back since.

Doing all of them hours at the time was crazy and I look back at it and I’m not sure how I physically did it, but mentally I finally knew where I wanted to be in life. I am now a full time PT and run a successful business in doing what I love, as well as doing this new amazing role within the NHS. This is proof that when you finally do realize what it is you want to, you work hard to achieve it, you will!

This I why I am so passionate about this new role as a Health and Wellbeing Coach. A lot of the time the answers are within you. Sometimes you just need someone to talk to and to help you find the pathways to your future.
